CHECKING "FASTBACK" SEATSTAYS FOR MATCHED HEIGHTS

By James Morikawa

Here's a simple way to check for matching heights on Fastback mitered seatstays.

I use the "V" attachment from my combination machinist's square.  I figure any "V" shape thingy would do, like a short piece of angle bar.

Sit the "V" squarely on the Seattube, and position the apex of the "V" between the seatstays.

You'll be able to visually check for matching, or mis-matching seatstay heights.   Pretty funky to end up with seatstays that are brazed uneven, so I always check for matched heights with this funky tool.  Always worked well for me, so I never went looking for something better.

Pretty simple, eh?  Anyway I hope the pictures communicated my thoughts.

OK, That's it.  Good night, and have a better tomorrow.
